Create a fully overlay widget area
The Genesis Overlay Widget plugins creates a full screen overlay widget area. You can use this plugin for forms, navigation or a featured post or page. Set backgroundcolor, button position and choose one of the seven effects you like best.
The plugin is based on the ‘Fullscreen Overlay Styles & Effects‘ of Tympanus. Be sure to check out his page for more great stuff and examples.
Plugin Installation
The Plugin installation is a straightforward process. There are two ways to install the plugin:
WordPress Dashboard upload:
- Download the plugin to your computer
- Navigate to Plugins -> Add New
- Select ‘Add New’ at the top and ‘Upload Plugin’ on the next page
- Browse to the plugin you’ve just downloaded and select it
- Click ‘Install Now’ and the plugin will be installed
- Active the plugin
Install from the WordPress repository:
- Navigate to Plugins -> Add New
- Select ‘Add New’ at the top
- Use the search field and search for ‘Genesis overlay widget’
- If you find the plugin, hit the ‘Install button’ and the plugin will be installed
- Active the plugin
Set the widget
Navigate to Appearance > Widgets. In the right column you see a new widget area with the name Overlay Widget. Add a widget of your choice, for example a custom menu or text widget. If you don’t set a widget there is nothing to show!
If the widget is set and saved go to the frontpage and see the result.
Configuration
The Plugin settings can be found in your WordPress back-end under Genesis in the navigation bar.
Load plugin styling.
Disables all of the styling. This includes all the effects.
Button text
Set the title of the button. The button fire’s the overlay widget area.
Button Color
Set the Button background color.
Position
Set the position of the button; left, right, fixed or absolute.
Effect settings
Set one of the effects. Check for examples ‘Fullscreen Overlay Styles & Effects‘.
Color Settings
Set the background color of the overlay. The background color can be set in rgba or hex.
