Genesis widget background manual

Introducing a new way to control your page widget background.

Want to control the background of your page widgets without changing any code? This is the solution. With this plugin, you can easily set the featured image, a custom image, or a color as background. And, just with a few clicks.

This plugin allows you to customize Genesis child themes in such a way that you can quickly change background images. Even better, it allows your customers to control the featured page widget background images themselves.

Plugin Installation

The Plugin installation is a straightforward process. There are two ways to install the plugin:

WordPress Dashboard upload:

1. Download the plugin to your computer
2. Navigate to Plugins -> Add New
3. Select  ‘Add New’  at the top and ‘Upload Plugin’ on the next page
4. Browse to the plugin you’ve just downloaded and select it
5. Click ‘Install Now’ and the plugin will be installed
6. Active the plugin

Install from the WordPress repository:

1. Navigate to Plugins -> Add New
2. Select ‘Add New’ at the top
3. Use the search field and search for ‘Genesis widget background’
4. If you find the plugin, hit the ‘Install button’ and the plugin will be installed
5. Active the plugin

Set the Widget

Navigate to Appearance > Widgets. Select the Genesis Widget Background in the right column and drag it to the widget area of your choice.

Configuration

Configuration of the plugin is straightforward.

Title
Set the title of the widget. Can be left blank.

Select Page
Select the page you want to display in the widget area.

Select the Background Image

• No Image
  This option leaves the background empty
• Show Featured Image
  This option shows the featured image of the selected page. Be sure the featured image is set on the selected page.
• Show Custom Image
  This option shows the custom image. When this option is selected you can upload an image of your choice.
• Background Color
  This option shows a background color. When this option is selected you can fill in the desired hex color.

Background Fixed
When selected Show Featured Image or Show Custom Image there is also the option to fix the background image. When activated the background will be fixed.

Show Page Title
When selected the title of the selected page will be show. Leave blank if you don’t want to show the title.

Show Page Content
When selected the content of  the selected page will be shown. Leave blank if you don’t want to show the content.

Content Character Limit
Set the limit on the show characters of the content.

More Text
If you set the Character limit you can set your own read more text.

Possibilities

The Stretch theme is a great example to show the possibilities of this plugin. Many sections on the home page are created with this plugin. In theory, it is possible to build the whole homepage with this plugin.
